Who did you support for Mayor in 2003: I didn't endorse any candidate because I was Executive Director of the
Asian Law Caucus.

Major Endorsements: I've already organized 10,000 San Franciscans on Reset San Francisco who
are in support of better policy. We're discussing the most important issues
facing our city because more voices in City Hall means more choices and
more ideas. Whether it's working with David Hochschild and so many others
on San Francisco's Solar Task Force to launch GoSolarSF or engaging other
great leaders to initiate innovative ideas, I believe that the only way we
can get our city working again is by bringing the best and the brightest
together. And that's what Reset San Francisco is all about - engaging all

I support instant runoff voting because it means there are more voices
and more choices, which means more ideas for City Hall - and that's a

2) Ecological Wisdom: Please outline your view of the major environmental and ecological issues facing San Francisco and your

I believe that creating a greener, more environmentally friendly city
is important to all San Franciscans. Ranked the "Greenest City" in the
United States by a recent Siemens report, San Francisco has made
significant environmental strides, but we can and should do more. Our
parks play a big role in our environmental ranking, and we need to
work to protect them and ensure that our expanding park system is
meeting the needs of San Francisco.

San Francisco's parks are one of the most valuable assets - and
services - our city government provides the people of our city. They
give San Franciscans a place to relax, enjoy our amazing city and make
new friends. As mayor, I would would to ensure protection and

7) Feminism: Do you believe women are underrepresented in city government? If so, why do you believe this is the case? Is this a bad
thing, and if so, what would you do to remedy the situation?

We absolutely need more women in elected offices, even though San
Francisco is still ahead of the national curve. In 2009, the
percentage of woman who received appointments to San Francisco Boards,
Commissions, and Taskforces was 44% and a full 48% of women held
offices in the criminal justice arena. The SFUSD Board, however is
composed of 88% women. The Board of Supervisors is composed of only
27% women. While these numbers aren't ideal, they do suggest we are
heading in the right direction. We need to continue supporting
services for women in San Francisco, like child care, to ensure that
women have access to the same opportunities as their male
counterparts.

8) Respect for Diversity: Tell us what you believe are the best and the worst aspects of San Francisco's diversity. How would you try to
protect the best while trying to change the worst?

San Francisco is an amazingly diverse city - the people, the
neighborhoods, the food, the melting pot of cultures - and it's one
I'd be proud to lead.

Yet, some San Francisco neighborhoods, like Bayview, are seeing
potential decreases in racial and ethnic diversity, at least partially
due to the tough economic times that have hit the Bay Area. We should
all work to make sure this city can continue to be the home for all
the people who live here, and part of that effort is making sure
people can afford to continue living here. For my part, I have always
supported affordable housing in the past and as mayor, I will support
affordable housing bonds.

There is a serious shortage of low-income housing in San
Francisco. Under the 2006 Inclusionary Housing Ordinance, new
development must include fifteen percent of affordable units to be
constructed on all projects of five units or more. If developers opt
to build affordable units off-site, the construction requirement jumps
to twenty percent.

The shortage of low-income and, even worst, moderate-income housing is
a threat to the living conditions of too many of San Franciscans. Our
community must help provide affordable housing options for all people.

With 153.4% of market rate housing already being met - it's clear
where San Francisco should focus its housing efforts. And, this should
be accomplished by building our city's inventory of both low and
moderately priced housing.

This can be achieved by, first of all, engaging neighbors and the
community in a process that pre-approves the type - and affordability
level - of housing we need. As it now stands, developers first decide
the kind of housing they want to build and then launch what is
frequently a lengthy and expensive process of winning neighborhood
approval with the city essentially acting as referee.
